I jotted these down on my phone as they happened and am just now getting around to posting them. Sadly Ianisms occur much more often than my poor memory can keep track of!
Ian is learning about knock-knock jokes and here is one that he told me in the car the other day:
Ian: Knock knock
Mommy: Who's there?
Ian: Chicken nuggets
Mommy: Chicken nuggets who?
Ian: YUM! (Followed by hysterical laughter as though this is the funniest joke ever told)
Ian was sitting on the step in swimming class when he sneezed. I'm sitting on a viewing bench about 12 feet away. He lifts his goggles, looks at me and says "what do you say mommy?" I mouth in response "bless you." He says "thank you", lowers his goggles back on his eyes and got back to swimming. He takes manners very seriously.
A song about a bumble bee came on while driving in the car.
Ian: "That's Calla." (Calla was a bee for Halloween.)
Mommy: "Yep, you're right. And what did you dress up as for Halloween?"
Ian: "A spider."
Mommy: "Yep. I wonder what you're going to be for Halloween next year."
Ian: "I'm going to be a banana for Halloween. Will you peel me mommy?"
Mommy: ???
We were at the dinner table one night and as usual, I finished eating well before Ian. When I started to get up to grab some more water, Ian stopped me.
Ian: "Can you ask to be excused mommy?"
Mommy: "Well buddy, I think I'll get a glass of water and sit with you until you're done eating."
A few minutes later, Calla was in her high chair nibbling on some cereal. When she is done, she'll just start dropping the food on the floor rather than putting it in her mouth.
Ian: "Mommy, I'm all done but I'm going to sit here and wait until Calla's done throwing O's on the floor."
In case you haven't gathered it with these stories, Ian has become a key member of the politeness police. After reading through these, I realize they may have been more funny in the moment than they translate in writing. Oh well, I'll share them anyway!

Still funny after the moment has passed! My love the last one where he waits until Calla is done throwing O's on the floor. So sweet, so polite, so cute.
ReplyDeleteWell done, parents! Politeness in a child is such a wonderful quality.
Keep jotting those anecdotes--so sweet. I love Ian's manners, too!--Nana
